Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Devin Chafin and Shock Linwood both ran for two touchdowns as the 10th-ranked Baylor Bears posted an impressive 48-14 win over the No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners. Bryce Petty set a career high with 32 completions and finished with 387 passing yards and one touchdown for the Bears (8-1, 5-1 Big 12), who scored the final 45 points en route to posting their first win in 12 trips to Norman. Corey Coleman caught 15 passes for 224 yards, the second-highest totals in a game in Baylor history, and scored two touchdowns. Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight completed 12-of-27 passes for 146 yards with two touchdowns and one interception before being forced out of the game on a fourth-quarter sack. Knight was placed on a backboard and pointed to the sky as he was being removed on a cart. Alex Ross amassed 71 yards on six carries for Oklahoma (6-3, 3-3), which had produced at least 30 points in 12 straight games. Baylors Chris Callahan kicked a 34-yard field goal to open the scoring, but Oklahoma built a 14-3 lead as Knight threw touchdown passes of eight and nine yards to Michiah Quick and Durron Neal on consecutive possessions later in the first quarter. The Bears fought back with a 21-point second quarter. Petty hooked up with Coleman for a 33-yard touchdown and Chafin scored on a plunge after Bryce Hager returned a Knight interception to Oklahoma 1. The Sooners, now trailing 17-14, looked to tie the game, but Michael Hunnicutt missed a 31-yard field goal try wide right. Oklahoma was then flagged for roughing the kicker on a punt, giving the Bears a fresh set of downs. Petty later converted a 4th-and-4 from the Oklahoma 33 with a 10-yard pass to Jay Lee, and Chafin extended Baylors lead to 24-14 with a 2-yard TD run. The Bears marched down the field with ease on each of their first two drives in the third quarter. Coleman had a 5-yard touchdown run and Linwood scored on a 3-yard run. In the fourth quarter, Callahan made a 24-yard field goal and Linwood reached the end zone on a 15-yard run. Encarnacions historic month continued on Thursday with two more home runs, but his teams nine-game winning streak came to an end, as Kansas City managed an 8-6 win in 10 innings. An error by shortstop Jose Reyes with two outs in the ninth led to the game- tying run and the Royals scored twice in the 10th off Todd Redmond (0-4) to win it. Alcides Escobar singled and Pedro Ciriaco was hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs in the 10th. Nori Aoki moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt for Omar Infante, whose liner to left knocked in both runners. Wade Davis (4-1) tossed two perfect innings in relief of James Shields to earn the win and Greg Holland pitched around a two-out infield single to nail down his 15th save. The loss spoiled another brilliant performance by Encarnacion, whose 15th and 16th home runs in May tied him with Mickey Mantle for most in the month in American League history. Hes also one shy of Barry Bonds major league record set in 2001. "I dont know where it goes down in history, but its pretty historic in my mind," manager John Gibbons said. This was the slluggers fifth multi-home run game in May after hitting just two homers total in April.dddddddddddd "Encarnacion is probably the hottest hitter on the planet right now," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "Hes got 16 home runs in May." Jose Bautista also went deep for Toronto, which had won 12 of 13 coming in. All nine Royals starters had at least one hit as their four-game skid was halted. Salvador Perez hit a solo home run, Infante drove in three runs and Escobar had three hits. Hoping to slow Encarnacion down on Friday will be lefty Jason Vargas, who is 4-2 with a 3.55 ERA. Vargas did not get a decision on Sunday in Anaheim, despite a solid effort that saw him surrender just a run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-3 loss. Vargas has faced the Blue Jays seven times and is 1-3 against them with a 5.90 ERA. Toronto, meanwhile, will turn to lefty J.A. Happ, who has won his last three starts. Happ beat the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, as he scattered four hits and struck out seven over seven scoreless innings to run his record to 4-1, while lowering his ERA to 3.34. "Hes filling up the strike zone," Gibbons said. "Hes locked in right now." Happ has faced the Royals three times and is 2-1 against them with a 5.40 ERA. The Royals took two of three from the Jays earlier this season.
