Dover, DE (SportsNetwork.com) - Veteran assistant coach Kenny Carter, who has coached under some of the biggest names in college football, was named Delaware States new football coach on Wednesday. Carter served as the passing game and co-special teams coordinator as well as wide receivers coach at Youngstown State this past season. Previously, he coached under Charlie Strong at Louisville, helping the Cardinals to two Big East Conference championships and three bowl appearances. During the 2008 and 09 seasons, Carter was Urban Meyers running backs coach at Florida. The Gators won the 2009 BCS national championship with a 24-14 victory over Oklahoma. Carter also coached at Vanderbilt; Penn State, where served under the late Joe Paterno from 2001-03 as assistant receivers coach; Pittsburgh; LSU; Furman; and The Citadel, his alma mater where he played linebacker before graduating in 1990. Delaware State finished 2-10 overall and 2-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference last season under Kermit Blount, who was fired in December after going 16-29 in four seasons.
