What are the best drills for developing one’s speed or running ability? Adam Kessler nike air force 1 basse uomo scontate , a speed training coach from Columbus, gets asked this all the time. Finally, he decided to take some time and think about what his top five favorite running drills would be if he had to narrow it down. The drills he decided to discuss in this list are a mix of developing speed and explosiveness plus honing the athlete’s running mechanics. If the running mechanics stink, then these drills are meaningless. So nike air force 1 basse scontate , if he had one athlete who wanted to improve hisher running and he was limited to five exercises, here is his list:
Leg Horizontal Jumps – Essentially, these are like doing a triple jump, except you never hop on the other leg. This drill is for a more mature athlete because of the demand that is placed on the leg. Running is a technique of single leg explosions nike air force 1 mid scontate , so that is why this is on my list. I usually have my athlete jump 4 times (jumping and landing on the same leg), making sure they stick the landing with a nice knee and hip flexion and soft landing on the ball of the foot. I will then do some rapid fire jumps as well.
High Knee Jump Ropes – I love this drill. This could have been my number one. It develops speed, handeye coordination, plus it puts your legs in very similar positions you will find when you are sprinting. The athlete jumps rope alternating feet with a high knee action. I usually start them off jumping rope on one leg to develop the strength nike air force 1 alte Donne scontate , then do a simple alternating style, then try the high knee. It really develops those fast twitch fibers.
Hurdle Jumps – One of the big mechanical issues I see with runners is a slow frequency rate (or the leg turnover quick). Sometimes due to lack of strength, hurdle jumps helps that out. I start at a conservative height and set four of them up. The athlete has to jump over all four without hitting the hurdles and do it quickly. Those knees go up and the heel fires up to the butt, just like trying to run fast. The speed and leg turnover is improved with this drill.
Walking Lunge – This is a great drill to do with younger runners. It develops core strength nike air force 1 alte uomo scontate , coordination between the opposite arm and leg, strength, and balance with the legs. You step forward with one leg and lunge down so the back knee almost touches the ground. Keep your opposite arm in a good L shape and in running position. When the knee almost touches you explode up and step forward with that back leg while switching arms (keeping that opposite armleg action you have when you run). Keep the torso nice and tight, don’t lean forward. Doing that will help you develop good core strength.
TRX Sprinting In Place – Obviously nike air force 1 alte scontate , you need access to a TRX suspension unit, but this is a very similar drill to the jump ropes. You lean forward holding the TRX in your hands with the straps under your arms. Your feet are behind you and your body is at a 75 degree angle. If you let go, you would fall down. Start running in place (high knees) as fast as you can, staying upright nike air force 1 07 basse scontate , and keeping that angle. Great for the body to feel that acceleration phase and the rapid fire foot contacts.
That is the first part of Adam’s top ten. He has the rest of the exercises available on his website, howtorunfasternow. There is also some additional speed training information there, along with his Run Faster Method, a speed training workout designed to help athletes run faster.

Whistleblowers are "desperately" needed in the war on doping in sport nike air force 1 07 mid scontate , the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) chief said Wednesday, calling for police to protect them from those intent on revenge.
WADA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are under pressure to stamp down on drug cheats with Russia in particular in the spotlight for what WADA calls state-sponsored doping across multiple sports over several years.
WADA Director-General -Olivier Niggli said whistleblowers such as Russian athlete Yuliya Stepanova and her husband Vitaly - who fled to the US because of fear of reprisals - were invaluable sources of information to help bust the drug cheats. But he said others contemplating following their lead needed to know they would be safe.
"Anti-doping agencies can only do so much in the fight against doping," Swiss lawyer Niggli, who replaced the long-serving David Howman in July last year nike air force 1 07 alte scontate , told journalists after appearing on a panel at the Tackling Doping in Sports conference in London.
"We desperately need whistleblowers. But to encourage their cooperation and so on we can only do so much.
"We need law enforcement on our side to help provide protection to the whistleblowers and they are the only ones who can do it."
Niggli said that helping expose the drug cheats came with personal risks for those who go public.
"I would think in most cases before a whistleblower becomes exposed you would have secured necessary protection with relevant law enforcement in the particular jurisdiction," he said.
"That should be the right process going forward."
The Stepanovs are the most high-profile to come forward, playing a major part in blowing open doping across Russian sports.
Vitaly, who worked for the discredited Russian Anti-Doping Agency nike air force 1 07 scontate , and his runner wife fled Russia fearing for their safety following their revelations in 2014 about widespread doping in the country.
Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to her as "Judas" but the Russian track and field team was barred from last year's Rio Olympic Games and there was a total ban on Russians at the Paralympic Games.
